Unremitting neck pain.

Fogeltanz and Pursel (p. 000) present an uncommon case of retropharyngeal abscess of the neck presenting as benign neck pain.

Behaviors relating to vaccination. Page et al (p. 000) explore how the topic of vaccination arises during interactions between Western Canadian doctors of chiropractic and their patients, the advice that they give to patients, and the factors that influence their opinions.

Evaluation of endurance. Olson et al (p. 000) investigate intrarater and interrater reliability of a flexor endurance test in asymptomatic subjects. This study attempts to identify a reliable clinical test of flexor endurance because deficiencies of the deep cervical flexors have been associated with pain, increased lordosis, and headache.

Efficacy of chiropractic therapy. Beyerman et al (p. 000) evaluate the efficacy of chiropractic spinal manipulation, manual flexion/distraction, and hot pack, compared with hot pack alone, for the treatment of low back pain due to osteoarthritis.

Redefining the vastus medialis.

Lefebvre et al (p. 000) study the anatomy, motor points, and electromyogram of the vastus medialis to provide an electrophysiologic and functional description of the vastus medialis. Their findings suggest that different portions of the vastus medialis may need to be addressed differently during quadriceps rehabilitation in patellofemoral dysfunctions.

Outcome measures for low back pain. Hare-Mortensen (p. 000) compared the responsiveness and sensitivity of 3 fundamentally different outcome measures in low back pain using a longitudinal evaluation of outcome measures.

Measuring paraspinal skin surface temperature. Roy et al (p. 000) investigated if infrared cameras could be used as tools in a controlled environment.

Strengthening exercises for chronic back pain. Slade and Keating (p. 000) perform a systematic review of the effect of lumbar spine strengthening exercises on outcomes for people with chronic low back pain.

Does seat belt type make a difference?

Kumar et al (p. 000) determine the effect of a standard 3-point lap and shoulder seat belt and car seat on the electromyographic response of the cervical muscles to increasing low-velocity impacts in comparison to a rigid seat and 5-point restraint.

Impact of manipulation on the nervous system. Palmgren et al (p. 000) examine alteration in head repositioning accuracy, range of motion, and pain intensity in patients with chronic cervical pain syndrome. Their results suggest that chiropractic care may be effective in influencing the complex process of proprioceptive sensibility and pain of cervical origin.

Multiple impulse therapy. Collins et al (p. 000) perform survival analysis to plot the probability of pain vs the days required for symptom resolution for 8 patient complaints in a group of more than 200 patients.

Influence of sacroiliac joint manipulation. Hillerman et al (p. 000) assess whether tibiofemoral joint manipulation is as effective as a sacroiliac joint manipulation in increasing quadriceps muscle strength.

A better understanding of palpation.

Kawchuk et al (p. 000) tested 3 ultrasonic indentation techniques (rigid, assisted, and handheld) assess tissue stiffness within an environment that controlled for deformation and displacement properties. The accuracy of each technique was determined by comparing it to a gold standard.
